புதுடில்லி: ஜூனியர் ஆசிய கோப்பை ஹாக்கி தொடரில், இந்தியா-பாகிஸ்தான் அணிகள் ஒரே பிரிவில் இடம் பிடித்துள்ளன.

மலேசியாவில், மே 3-13ம் தேதிகளில் 7வது ஆண்களுக்கான ஜூனியர் ஆசிய கோப்பை ஹாக்கி தொடர் நடக்கவுள்ளது. இதில் இந்தியா, ஜப்பான் உள்ளிட்ட எட்டு அணிகள் பங்கேற்கின்றன. இந்திய அணி "பி' பிரிவில் பாகிஸ்தான், இலங்கை, சீனா அணிகளுடன் இடம் பிடித்துள்ளது. "ஏ' பிரிவில் மலேசியா, கொரியா, ஜப்பான், ஈரான் அணிகள் உள்ளன.

இந்திய அணி, தனது முதல் போட்டியில் இலங்கையை (மே 4) சந்திக்கிறது. அதன்பின் பாகிஸ்தான் (மே 6), சீனா (மே 7) அணிகளுடன் மோதுகிறது. இந்திய அணியின் கேப்டனாக ஆகாஷ்தீப் சிங், துணைக் கேப்டனாக அமித் ரோஹிதாஸ் உள்ளனர். முன்னதாக நடந்த இத்தொடரில் இந்திய அணி, இரண்டு முறை (2004, 08) கோப்பை வென்றது. இம்முறை சாதிக்கும் பட்சத்தில், மூன்றாவது பட்டம் வெல்லலாம். வாழ்த்துக்கள் ....

Give me 100 players, I'll make India the best: Michael Nobbs

PUNE: Indian hockey team's chief coachMichael Nobbs said that it was surprising that the standard of Indian hockey had fallen over the years despite players having the requisite talent and skill.

Nobbs is in the city with the Indian hockey team which is training for the London Olympics at a camp at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi. "If you give me more than a hundred players to train, India will be the best team on the planet within two years," the Australian said. He said that the fall in standards over the years was purely due to "self-destruction".

Speaking about some senior players who participated in the recent World Series Hockey (WSH) tournament, Nobbs said, "These players will not be taken back. Moreover, some of them are not fit. A few of them had criticized me in the media but it doesn't bother me. I am here for the welfare and progress of the team," he said. "Ten members of the junior team are practising with the seniors here."

The Indian team will play in a four-nation tournament in May as preparation for the London Olympics. "We will play against some really tough nations," Nobbs said. The other teams in the tournament are Great Britain, Germany and Australia.

When asked about the Asian Champions Trophy hero Yuvraj Walmiki's injury, Nobbs said, "I am concerned about that. Hopefully, it should heal before the Olympics." Yuvraj suffered a hamstring injury during the Olympic qualifying matches in New Delhi. He is undergoing rehabilitation under doctor Lt Col BK Nayak and trainer David John.

The Indian team has been practicing, for the first time, with the yellow-coloured Kookaburra balls at the camp here. Kookaburra balls will be used during the Olympics too, said Hockey India's executive director Anupam Ghulati. Ghulati, who is also attending the camp, said the team will practice on the blue-coloured synthetic pitch in Santander, northern Spain, just before the Olympics. "The weather there will be similar to that in London. The team will play a tournament involving Spain and Great Britain in Santander, before proceeding for the Olympics," he said.

After returning from the four-nation tournament, India will participate in the Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia from May 24 to June 3. Malaysia, Argentina, New Zealand, Pakistanand South Korea will be the other teams.

The Indian juniors who are practising with the senior team here at Balewadi, will participate in the Asian junior championships to be held in Malaysia from May 3 to 13.

செல்சி கால்பந்து அகாடமியில் சேருவதற்காக இந்தியாவில் இருந்து 4 சிறுவர்கள் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட உள்ளனர்.இதற்கான தேர்வு வருகிற மே மாதம் 2ந் தேதி தொடங்கி இந்தியாவின் பல நகரங்களில் நடக்க உள்ளது.

உலக கோப்பை கால்பந்து போட்டி வருவதை முன்னிட்டு ஈ.எஸ்.பி.என். நிறுவனம் இந்தியாவின் 'சூப்பர் சாக்கர் ஸ்டார் இந்தியா' என்ற நிகழ்ச்சியை நடத்த உள்ளது.நிகழ்ச்சியில் கலந்து கொள்ளும் சிறுவர்களில் இருந்து 20 பேர் தேர்வு செய்யப்படுவார்கள். அவர்களுக்கு இந்தியாவில் உள்ள ஏதாவது ஒரு கால்பந்து அகாடமியில் மூன்று வார காலம் பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்படும். அதில் சிறந்த 4 பேர் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டு இங்கிலாந்தின் புகழ் பெற்ற செல்சி அணிக்கு சொந்தமான கால்பந்து அகாடமியில் பயிற்சிக்காக சேர்க்கப்படுவார்கள். பயிற்சியில் சிறப்பான ஒரு சிறுவன் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டு இந்தியாவின் 'சூப்பர் சாக்கர் ஸ்டார்' என்ற பட்டம் சூட்டப்படும். மேலும் அந்த சிறுவனுக்கு 10 ஆயிரம் டாலர்கள் பரிசும் காத்திருக்கிறது.

இதற்கான தேர்வு வருகிற மே மாதம் 2ந் தேதி புது டெல்லியிலும் கொச்சியில் 5ந் தேதியும் கோல்கத்தாவில் 8ந் தேதியும் கோவாவில் 11ந் தேதியும் காங்டாக்கில் 15ந் தேதியும் மும்பையில் 18ந் தேதியும் நடக்கிறது. தேர்வில் கலந்து கொள்ள விரும்பும் சிறுவர்கள் 13வயதில் இருந்து 16 வயதிற்குள் இருக்க வேண்டும். தமிழகம் உள்ளிட்ட தென் மாநில சிறுவர்கள் கொச்சியில் மே மாதம் 5ந் தேதி நடக்க உள்ள தேர்வில் கலந்து கொள்ளலாம். பிறப்பு சான்றிதழ், போட்டியில் கலந்து கொள்வதற்காக பதிவு படிவம், வயது சான்று பத்திரம் ஆகியவற்றை கொண்டு வர வேண்டும்.தேர்வுக்கு வரும் சிறுவர்களுடன் ஒருவர் மட்டுமே மைதானத்திற்குள் அனுமதிக்கப்படுவார்.

மரணமடைந்த கால்பந்து வீரரின் சோக வாழ்க்கை (வீடியோ இணைப்பு)

கடந்த ஐந்து நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு கால்பந்து மைதானத்தில் சுருண்டு விழுந்த மரணமடைந்த மொரோசினி என்ற கால்பந்து வீரரின் வாழ்க்கையும் சோகமயமானதாகவே உள்ளது.

இத்தாலியில் நடைபெற்ற சீரி பி போட்டியின் போது லிவர்னோ அணிக்காக விளையாடிய பியர்மரியோ மொரோசினி விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் போது அவருக்கு நெஞ்சு வலி ஏற்பட்டு தடுமாறி விழுந்தார். பின்பு இரு முறை எழ முயன்று முடியாமல் மரணமடைந்தார்.

அவரது மரணம் மைதானத்திலிருந்த பல வீரர்களுக்கும் கண்ணீரை வர வைத்தது. 25 வயதான மொரோசினி மைதானத்தில் உயிர் விட்ட காட்சி ஊடகங்களிலும் ஒளிபரப்பப்பட்டது. இதனை பார்த்த கோடிக்கணக்கான கால்பந்து ரசிகர்கள் மிகுந்த மன வேதனைக்குள்ளானார்கள்.

இந்த இளம் வீரரின் வாழ்க்கையே சோகம் நிரம்பியது என்று பலருக்கும் தெரியாது.

இத்தாலியின் பிரபல உடினிஸ் அணிக்காக ஒப்பந்தம் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்த மொரோசினி சமீபத்தில் சீரி 'பி' அணியான லிவர்னோ அணிக்காக விளையாடினார். லிவர்னோ அணி பெஸ்காரா அணியை எதிர்த்து விளையாடும் போது களத்திலேயே அவரது உயிர் பிரிந்தது.

இளம் வயதிலேயே பெற்றோரை இழந்த மொரோசினிக்கு ஒரு ஊனமுற்ற சகோதரரும், ஊனமுற்ற சகோதரியும் உண்டு. பெற்றோரை இழந்த இவரது ஊனமுற்ற சகோதரர் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார். பின்பு ஊனமுற்ற தன் சகோதரியை மொரோசினி தன்னுடன் வைத்து மிக அன்பாக கவனித்து வந்தார்.

ஆனால் மொரோசினியின் மரணத்தால் தற்போது ஆதரவில்லாமல் போன அவரது சகோதரிக்கு உதவி செய்ய உடினிஸ் அணி முன் வந்துள்ளது.

இது குறித்து உடினிஸ் அணித்தலைவர் ஆன்டானியா டி நடாலி கூறுகையில், மொரோசினியின் சகோதரியை பார்த்துக் கொள்ளும் பொறுப்பு உடினிஸ் அணிக்கு உள்ளது. அவருக்கு தற்போது எந்த ஆதரவும் இல்லை என்பதை உடினிஸ் உணர்ந்துள்ளது என்று தெரிவித்தார்.

சோகத்திலேயே வாழ்க்கை நடத்தி வந்த முரோசினியின் இறப்பும் கால்பந்து ரசிகர்களை சோகத்தில் ஆழ்த்திவிட்டது. லிவர்னோ அணிக்காக முரோசினி 25ம் எண் ஜெர்சி அணிந்து விளையாடி வந்தார்.

அவரது மரணத்தையடுத்து லிவர்னோ 25ம் எண் ஜெர்சிக்கு ஓய்வுகொடுக்க முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. இனிமேல் லிவர்னோ அணிக்காக விளையாடும் எந்த வீரருக்கும் 25ம் எண் ஜெர்சி வழங்கப்பட மாட்டாது என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Q. Indian hockey has seen a resurgence under Michael Nobbs. How do you read the signs?
I have a problem with your primary premise, that’s there a resurgence in Indian hockey. If India had to beat Great Britain to qualify, I don’t think they would have done it. Canada was the only difficult team to beat. I am not surprised that India qualified; they would have done so I think. But it wouldn’t have been this easy. The whole reaction there though, I think you have jumped the gun. I am not sure about the resurgence. You have qualified for the Olympics and that is good.

Q. Does that mean there’s no hope for India?
India has the most resources in the world when it comes to hockey, finance, players… When I was in India, I had a pool of 3,000 good players to choose from. India is the leading country in the world in terms of resources and possibilities. That is why everyone in the world is so keen for India to do well. It’s so important for the sport’s development. The fundamentals in Indian hockey are okay in some ways. I know the kind of talent that the players have in India. It is amazing.

Q. What’s the problem then?The administration is very problematic. You have two bodies fighting with each other, there is a lot of tos and fros happening. You still have the court cases between Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation. In the middle you have Sports Authority of India which is the biggest problem. The bureaucracy is India is in a class by itself. The quality and administration of the game is less than perfect. It’s the one thing that holds India back. You have the potential to be number one. But at the moment, the administration and structure of the game is India’s chain.

Q. What do you make of Michael Nobbs?I knew Michael [Nobbs] well as a player. He was very good. He’s been involved with mid-level clubs all around Perth. Michael is a confident fellow and he backs his judgement.

Q. Can he take India to the next level?You need to plan long-term. Unless you are planning long-term, you will continue to make the same mistakes that you have made for so long. New tournament, new coach. Teams does badly, sack the coach. It’s like a revolving door. At Athens, you hired a German [Gerhard Rach] less than a year before the Olympics. All of us were stunned. He didn’t have the credentials or status.

Q. You were asked to coach the Indian team…I was asked if I would do the job. I said yeah but I have list of ten things that you have to do. I wrote a 20-30 page document and went to the officials. Number one on the list was that everyone on the contract would get paid. We didn’t get to number two. It was impossible to get anyone to make a decision. No one knew where the money went

Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012: Indian team announced

Going back from the old plan to send youngsters in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Hockey India has announced a full strength squad for the tournament starting from May 24th. The team selected by Hockey India is more or less the same which was selected to play in Olympics Test Event in London.

The team will be once again captain by Bharat Chetri and defensive midfielder Sardara Singh will be his deputy in the tournament. Rupinder Pal Singh who was dropped for Ignace Tirkey in Olympics Test event will make a comeback in the squad as the third defender along with Sandeep Singh and VR Raghunath.

Following the trend, this year Sultan Azlan Shah tournament will be played on blue and pink pitches with yellow balls. The tournament will serve as good practice for the Indian and other teams before the Olympics.

The participating teams in the tournament are Argentina, Great Britain, India, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan and hosts Malaysia.

The last outing of Indian team was not a good one and Indian team finished in 6th place.

Live TV coverage necessary for hockey promotion

Before any hockey tournament starts, Indian hockey fans just have one question, "Will the fans be able to watch the tournament live on TV?" and most of the time, answer to this question is "NO".

KPS Gill led Indian Hockey Federation was dissolved due to corruption charges but during their reign, a hockey fan would rarely miss a tournament on TV. Nearly all the tournaments played were shown live on TV. But, since Hockey India came into power, the scene has been totally different, It is rare that a hockey fan is able to watch the tournament live on TV and the fans have to resort to internet links and next day's newspapers to check the score.

The popularity of hockey has declined considerably in last two decades and will continue to do so, if the fans are unable to watch their favorite players in action. One of the main reasons for the declining popularity among Indian sports fans is lack of hockey action on TV. Ask sports manager, the most important thing for promotion of every sport is the TV relay of the tournaments but Hockey India and Government of India who has spent Rs. 18 crores and hired Rs. 30 lac CEO for promotion and marketing failed to understand this.

After the success of Indian team in the Olympics qualifiers, the popularity of hockey is increasing and Hockey India needs to tap the potential and they even had a great chance to do so, when Indian women went to play four nations hockey tournament in New Zealand. Netherlands, where hockey is second favorite now, has done same thing of promoting hockey. When the popularity of hockey was low in Netherlands, the national hockey board, paid TV channels to show hockey games live on TV. They selected a slot that was just before prime-time and that helped in promoting the game. Even in India, the TRP ratings of World Series Hockey was more than the combined TRP ratings of EPL and F1 race. Hockey in India has great potential but the officials governing the sport needs to understand this.

There will be another great chance for Hockey India to promote the game when India participates in Olympics Hockey Test Event starting May 2 and featuring top three teams in the world Australia, Germany and Great Britain. Hockey India should grab this opportunity by both the hands and do everything in their power to show the games live on TV.

It is high time that Hockey India officials understand that in order to increase the popularity of hockey, the games have to be shown live on TV or else the national game of India will always be in the back of the minds of the masses.

As a hockey worshiper, I have missed many great encounters due to lack to live TV relay of hockey tournaments. In last two years I am written (mailed) to everyone from Broadcasting Ministry, Sports Ministry, Hockey India to all the sports channels and asked/requested them to relay hockey matches live on TV but never succeeded. This year too, I am going to write to everyone and request them to show hockey matches on TV with a hope that this year will be different than last year.

Five steps Indian hockey should take to reach the top

Need to forget the glorious past for better future 

Ranked 10th in the world, Indian hockey is far behind top nations of the world and the way Indian hockey is going (despite winning Olympics Qualifiers) reaching the pinnacle of world hockey will still be a dream. Here are five steps that Indian hockey should take reach back to the top of world hockey.

1. Forget the past

The first major thing that Indian hockey officials, players and also the fans should do is stop boasting about the glorious past of Indian hockey. If you ask anyone about Indian hockey, they will say about the glorious past and eight gold medals. These things looks good only in books and for today's players it only creates pressure of winning the gold. We should not dump past glory on the shoulders of the players and allow them to play freely without any pressure. So, we need to forget all about the glorious past and and start fresh and new chapter of Indian hockey. The old tales about how we were the kings will only create pressure among the players and we won't be able to perform well with all that pressure.

2. Stop training camps

One big question that hockey officials needs to answer is what is the point in conducting month long hockey camps when we still lose to top 6 teams on regular basis. In training camps, the players play between themselves and know the strengths and weakness of the each other. Knowing the strengths and weakness of own players is no doubt important but more important is knowing the strengths and weakness of opposition and in that training camps does not help. Only time training camps should be conducted is at the start of the season when the players and rusty and need to get back in shape after a period of rest. The players cannot be expected to gain anything from these training camps is they keep on facing same players every day.

3. Play more international matches

The best way to learn about the opposition is by playing against them. Hockey India should conduct tours and organize various tournaments so that players (youngsters and seniors) get exposure from playing against opposition and find out their strengths and weakness. In India we do not have league tournament which will give the players match experience and keep them fit. India needs to play more matches in order to improve and reach the top of world hockey 

4. Dump the selectors

In the top European countries matters over team selection and captaincy is handled by the chief coach and the coaching staff but in India (include Pakistan too) its the selectors who take all the team selection and captaincy decision and then ask the coach to win medals and the tournaments. If you are appointing and asking him to win medals and tournaments, give him a right to select the team according to his own needs. Playing penalty corner experts with poor defending skills will not help the team in winning tournaments when the team needs an out and out defender. Coach should be given the right to select his own team and captain and then the board should only judge his performance after that. Giving him an opportunity to select his own players will yield more success than giving him players of selectors choice and ask him to work on them.

5. Conduct league tournaments

League tournaments like World Series Hockey are very important for the success for the national team. All the top hockey playing nations have their own league tournaments and when the players are not national duty, they turn out for their local club side and keep themselves fit and improve their game. India also needs a league tournament which runs for at least six months. The league will help India hockey by bringing out new players, keep the fans happy and also help them fit for the international tournaments.

Indian hockey needs to come out from past shadows and work on the future of the tournament. Hockey India should take cue from top European nations and learn how they function. Learning from top teams will surely help Indian teams reach the top

Players take out time to visit Spastic Society In Bangalore

Taking a break from the daily hockey training, several members of our senior national hockey team today visited the Spastic Society of Karnataka’s unit in Bangalore. Away from the hectic training and preparatory schedule ahead of the Olympic Qualification tournament in 2012, players along with Chief Coach Michael Nobbs managed some time to meet the kids suffering from Neuro JMuscular and  

Developmental Disabilities. Coach and Captain Bharat Chetri along with a dozen of players spend almost 2 hours with these kids in their coaching and art centres. 

The Spastics Society of Karnataka is a NonJGovernment Organization(NGO) dedicated to the welfare of persons with NeuroJMuscular and Developmental Disabilities.The society society provides a Comprehensive Package of Diagnostic and Intervention services to persons with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities and Learning Disabilities.

USA beat India 3-0 in the second leg opener

18 April 2012: Indian ladies went down 0-3 to USA in their opening match of the second 4-Nation Cup at Lloyd Elsmore Hockey Stadium in Pakuranga, New Zealand today.

USA dominated the proceedings as India played insipidly with numerous unforced errors. The goal scorers for USA were Shannon Taylor (Penalty corner 14th minute), Paige Selenski (30th minute) and Michelle Cesan (47th minute).

India took the field without central midfielder Asunta Lakra suffering from a sprained neck which helped their rivals to maneuver their attacks into the Indian striking circle without much difficulty. There was pressure on Indian deep defenders Joydeep Kaur and Kirandeep Kaur who were unable to rise to the occasion.

India should have taken an early lead but Anuradha Thokchom who was setup after a good move by Poonam Rani and Ritu Rani failed to beat the USA goalkeeper Amy Swensen.

Shortly after Rani also missed an easy scoring opportunity as she could not beat the goalkeeper on the one to one situation.

USA took the lead in the 14th minute from a penalty corner rebound scored by Shannon Taylor.

India tried to find the equalizer and earned two penalty corners. While the first one was easily intercepted, the second one, a direct set piece by Deepika was stopped on the goal line by Michelle Dawson.

USA increased their tally in the 30th minute when the Paige Selenski beat Indian goalkeeper Yogita Bali after dogging passed the fullbacks.

As India continued to commit unforced errors USA sealed India’s fate when they scored their 3rd goal in the 47th minute through Michelle Cesan.

Now India will play its next match against Australia on Thursday.

We had to unlearn old style: Hockey coach Michael Nobbs

It is certainly an unusual situation to see the Indian hockey team and probables play a fast-paced game for 60 minutes at a stretch. Unlike in the past, this time coach Michael Nobbs and his boys make a new team all together.

Aggression and pace is the new mantra of the Indian hockey team and it seems, after months of hard work, Nobbs’s dream of making an aggressive team is taking shape. “They are quick now, aren’t they?” asks Nobbs, when asked about the change in the team’s attitude.

“When I came here, the players were lean and out of strength, hence it was not possible to make a strong team out of the bunch. We had to work hard on their fitness, before making the change in their technique and style of play,” said Nobbs while talking to DNA.

“Our whole approach has changed now. Earlier, we never used to play so fast and that too for 60 to 70 minutes at a stretch, but now we do,” said drag-flicker Sandeep Singh.

The coach said apart from their diet and gym workout, he had to work hard in making the players learn the new style of hockey. But more than that, he had to work on making them unlearn the old style. “That was a difficult part. I had to actually make them unlearn the old style. But now things are falling at place and you can see the change,” Nobbs said.

The players, on the other hand, have responded well to the new gym workout and diet. “We’re done with heavy weight training, now they are doing normal gymming. They look fit now, though they still have to work on their strength, they are at least not lean like before,” the coach added.

பிரேசில் கால்பந்து ஜாம்பவான் பீலே ஆயிரம் கோல்களுக்கு மேல் அடித்தவர். கால்பந்தின் கடவுள் என்று கருதப்படுபவர். மூன்று முறை உலக கோப்பையை வென்றவர். தற்போது 71 வயது நிரம்பிய பீலே டுவிட்டர் சமூக வலைதளத்தில் செவ்வாய்கிழமையன்று காலை இணைந்தார்.

Dadi Chandro Tomar: The World’s Oldest Professional Sharpshooter

She is 78 years old, has six kids and fifteen grandchildren and has won more than 25 national championships in shooting. Don’t let the grey hair and the wrinkles on her face fool you, because when Chandro Tomar has a rifle in her hand, she is always on target. Chandro Tomar, regarded as the world’s oldest professional sharpshooter, hails from the Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, India. Since taking up the sport about ten years ago, Tomar has been remarkable given her old age.The story of how she got into shooting is an interesting one. Tomar used to accompany her grand daughter to the shooting range in Johri, UP. Bored of waiting around, Chandro decided to try out something new. So, just picked a rifle, took aim and shot the target perfectly. Farooq Pathan – the coach at the shooting range, was impressed by her ability and suggested her to come and practice regularly. Chandro who was reluctant initially, began to take the sport seriously and has never looked back since.

It was not easy for her mainly because of the fact that she is a woman. People including her relatives ridiculed her for taking up shooting. But Tomar was unperturbed by them. She learnt the nuances in shooting and began to participate in competitions. She was an outlaw of sorts in her village. But everyone was impressed when she won a number of championships. The walls of her house are filled with medals. For Chandro, one victory was the sweetest of them all. She takes pride in defeating the DIG of Police, Delhi in one of the competitions within the first two years of taking up shooting.

Farooq Pathan, Chandro Tomar’s club coach, insists that she has a natural talent for shooting. He says, ”She has the ultimate skill, a steady hand and a sharp eye.” It seems like the talent runs throughout her family. Chandro’s daughter Seema is an international shooter and is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Rifle and Pistol World Cup in 2010. Her granddaughter Neetu Solanki is also an international shooter, participating in shooting competitions in Hungary and Germany.

Talking about her mother, Seema said, “She is amazing. If she can do it then so can we. She showed us that anything is possible. She has helped so many of us improve our lives.”

Eventhough she has taken up shooting professionally, Tomar still does all the household chores and takes care of her grandchildren. She is an inspiration for the younger generation and mainly for the women in her locality. In fact she is an inspiration for us all.

நேற்று நடந்த போட்டியில் உலக "ரேங்கிங் பட்டியலில் 13வது இடத்தில் உள்ள இந்திய அணி, சற்று வலிமையான அமெரிக்காவை(10வது இடம்) சந்தித்தது. துவக்கத்தில் நமது வீராங்கனைகள் அசத்தினர். ஆட்டத்தின் 27வது நிமிடத்தில் தீபிகா ஒரு கோல் அடித்து, முன்னிலை பெற்று தந்தார். இதற்கு பின் கிடைத்த நான்கு "பெனால்டி கார்னர் வாய்ப்புகளை வீணடித்தனர். 

ஆட்டத்தின் 66வது நிமிடத்தில் அமெரிக்காவின் கேட்டி ஓடோனல் ஒரு கோல் அடிக்க, போட்டி 1-1 என்ற கணக்கில் "டிரா ஆனது. 

இன்று நடக்க உள்ள போட்டியில் இந்திய அணி, ஆஸ்திரேலியாவை எதிர்கொள்கிறது.

கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்கம் வழங்கிய ரூ.1 லட்சம் இழபீட்டை பெற வெங்கடேஷின் தந்தை மறுப்பு

பெங்களூர் கால்பந்து வீரர் வெங்கடேஷ் (வயது 22) களத்தில் விளையாடும் போதே மாரடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டு மரணம் அடைந்தார்.பெங்களூர் மார்ஷ் அணிக்கும் தென்மேற்கு ரெயில்வே அணிக்கும் இடையே நடந்த இந்த போட்டியின் போது 70வது நிமிடத்தில் மாற்று ஆட்டக்காரராக வெங்கடேஷ் களம் இறங்கினார்.அவர் களம் இறங்கிய 2வது நிமிடத்தில் மைதானத்தில் மயங்கி விழுந்தார்.மைதானத்தில் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் எதுவும் இல்லாததால் ஆட்டோவில் அவரை ஹோஸ்பட் மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு சென்றனர்-.ஆனால் வரும் வழியிலேயே அவர் மரணம் அடைந்து விட்டதாக டாக்டர்கள் தெரிவித்தனர்.பிரேத பரிசோதனையில் வெங்கடேஷ் கடும் மாரடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டு மரணம் அடைந்தார் என தெரிய வந்ததுள்ளது.

வெங்கடேஷின் மரணம் குறித்து பேட்டியளித்த கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்கத் தலைவர் கலீல் கூறுகையில்,'' மாற்று ஆட்டக்காரராக பெஞ்சில் இருந்த வெங்கடேஷ் களம் இறங்கும் முன்னரே வாந்தி எடுத்துள்ளார்.எனவே அவரை களம் இறக்க பயிற்சியாளர் யோசித்துள்ளார். அந்த சமயத்தில் வெங்கடேஷின் தந்தை அல்லது மாமா யாரோ ஒருவர் அவரை களம் இறக்கும்படி பயிற்சியாளரைவற்புறுத்தியுள்ளனர். இதையடுத்தே அவரை பயிற்சியாளர் களம் இறக்கியுள்ளார். உடல்நிலை சரியில்லாத நிலையில் வெங்கடேஷை களம் இறக்கியது அவரது மரணத்திற்கு காணரமாகி விட்டது'' என்றார்.

ஆனால் கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்கத் தலைவரின் இந்த கருத்துக்கு வெங்கடேஷின் தந்தை தன்ராஜ் கடும் மறுப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளர். அவர் கூறுகையில்,''எனது மகனுக்கு உடல்நிலையில் எந்த பாதிப்பும் இல்லை. பெஞ்சில் இருக்கும் போது வெங்கடேஷ் வாந்தி எடுத்ததாக சொல்வது சுத்த பொய். இவ்வளவு பெரிய மைதானத்தில் ஒரு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் இல்லை. மருத்துவக் குழு இல்லை.இதுவே எனது மகன் சாவுக்கு காரணமாகி விட்டது. எனது மகனது இறப்புக்கு இழப்பீடாக ரூ. ஒரு லட்சம் தருகின்றனர். இந்த பணம் எனக்கு தேவையில்லை. தெருவில் இறந்து கிடந்தால் கூட இந்த பணம் கிடைத்து விடும். எனது மகன் இறப்புக்கு கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்கமே காரணம். கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்க நிர்வாகிகள் மீது போலீசில் புகார் கொடுக்கப் போகிறேன்'' என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.

இதற்கிடையே வெங்கடேஷின் மரணம் குறித்து அகில இந்திய கால்பந்து சம்மேளனமும் தனது விசாரணையை துவக்கியுள்ளது.

ஐந்தாவது முறையாக ஆசிய பில்லியர்ட்ஸ் சாம்பியன் பட்டத்தை வென்றார் பங்கஜ்

உலக சாம்பியன் பட்டத்தை 6 முறை வென்ற இந்திய வீரர் பங்கஜ் அத்வானி தற்போது ஐந்தாவது முறையாக ஆசிய பில்லியர்ட்ஸ் பட்டத்தை வென்றுள்ளார்.

 ஏப்ரல் 8, 2012 அன்று நடைபெற்ற ஓ.என்.ஜி.சி ஆசியன் பில்லியர்ட்ஸ் போட்டியின் இறுதிச்சுற்றில் இந்திய வீரர் பங்கஜ் அத்வானி, தாய்லாந்து வீரர் தவாத் சுஜாரித்துக்கார்னுடன் மோதினார்.

பொதுவாக ஆசிய விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிகளுக்கே படகோட்டி வீரர்களை இந்தியா தயார் செய்வதில்லை என்று குற்றம்சாற்றும் இவர் லண்டன் ஒலிம்பிக்கில் தங்கம் எப்படி வெல்ல முடியும் என்று கேள்வி எழுப்பியுள்ளார்.

படகுப் பந்தயத்திற்கான வீரர்களைத் தயார் செய்வது என்பது பெரிய செலவு வைக்கும் விவகாரம் என்று கூறும் பல்ராஜ் யாதவ் தற்போது தான் தனியார் நிறுவனத்தில் பணியாற்றிவருவதால் செலவுகளை சமாளிக்க முடியவில்லை என்று கூறுகிறார். அரசு வேலை கிடைத்தால் சமாளிக்க முடியும் என்று கூறுகிறார்.

ஹரியானா மாநிலத்தின் குத்துச் சண்டை வீரர்கள் பல்வேறு தொடர்களில் இந்தியாவை தலை நிமிரச்செய்துள்ளனர் என்று கூறும் பல்ராஜ் யாதவ், ஹரியானா மாநிலத்தில் படகுப் போட்டிகளுக்குத் தயார் படுத்த நிறைய போட் கிளப்புகள் அவசியம் என்கிறார்.

தற்போது பல்ராஜ் யாதவ் மான்சூன் கோப்பை படகுப் போட்டிக்குத் தயார் செய்து வருகிறார். அதன் பிறகு ஆசிய படகுப் போட்டிகளுக்கும் இவர் தயாராகி வருகிறார்.

1999ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்திய கப்பற்படையில் பல்ராஜ் யாதவ் பணியாற்றினார். அங்கு கப்பல் ஓட்டியதால் தனக்கு படகு போட்டிகள் மீது ஆர்வம் பிறந்தது என்கிறார்.

இதுகுறித்து விஜேந்தர் கூறுகையில், ""மூன்றாவது முறையாக ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியில் விளையாடும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்கிறது. இதன்மூலம் என் மீதான விமர்ச்சனங்களுக்கு பதில் கொடுத்துவிட்டேன். இனி லண்டன் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி மீது அதிக கவனம் செலுத்த உள்ளேன்,'' என்றார்.

லண்டனில் இந்த வருடம் நடைபெற உள்ள ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியிலும் மீண்டும் சாதிப்பேன் என்று கடந்த முறை துப்பாக்கி சுடுதலில் தங்கப்பதக்கம் வென்ற அபினவ் பிந்த்ரா நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

சீனத் தலைநகர் பெய்ஜிங்கில் 2008 ம் வருடம் நடைபெற்ற ஒலிம்பிக் துப்பாக்கி சுடுதல் போட்டியில் இந்தியாவை சேர்ந்த அபினவ் பிந்த்ரா தனிநபர் பிரிவில் தங்கம் வென்றார்.

கடந்த ஒலிம்பிக்கில் தங்கம் வென்றதைப் போல, இந்த வருடம் லண்டனில் நடைபெற உள்ள ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியிலும் சாதிப்பேன் என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.

மேலும் அவர் கூறுகையில், நடந்து முடிந்தது அனைத்தும் வரலாறாகவே கருதப்படும் அதை அனைவரும் எளிதில் மறந்திருப்பர்.

எனவே நான் தற்போது வருங்காலத்தைப் பற்றி மட்டுமே சிந்திக்கிறேன். இந்த முறை இந்தியா சார்பில் அதிக வீரர்கள் ஒலிம்பிக்கில் பங்கேற்கின்றனர்.

நிச்சயமாக இந்தியாவிற்கு பெருமை சேர்ப்போம் என்று அபினவ் பிந்த்ரா நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

The Hockey Legend : Dhyan Chand

India created a world record by defeating
USA 24-1 in the finals of the 1932 Olympics

        Dhayan Singh was the elder brother of fellow player Roop Singh. His father Sameshwar Dutt Singh was in the Indian Army, and he played hockey in the army. Dhyan Chand had two brothers - Mool Singh, and Roop Singh. Because of Sameshwar Dutt's numerous army transfers, the family had to move to different cities and as such Chand had to terminate his education after only six years of schooling. The family finally settled in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Being in the military, Dhyan's father got a small piece of land for a house.

Young Chand had no serious inclination towards sports, though he loved wrestling. He stated that he did not remember whether he played any hockey worth mentioning before he joined the Army, though he said that he occasionally indulged in casual games in Jhansi with his friends.

Chand joined the Indian Army at the age of 16, The Hindi word Chand literally means the moon. Since Dhyan Singh used to practice a lot during night after his duty hours, he invariably used to wait for the moon to come out so that the visibility in the field (during his era there were no flood lights)improved. Hence he was called Chand, by his fellow players, as his practice sessions at night invariably coincided with the coming out from the moon.

Career:
 (29 August 1905 – 3 December 1979) was an Indian field hockey player who was considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Chand is most remembered for his goal-scoring feats and for his three Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932, and 1936) in field hockey, while India was dominant in the sport.

He is best known as “the Wizard” for his superb ball control, Chand played his final international match in 1948, having scored more than 400 goals during his international career.

Last days
In 1951, Captain Dhyan Chand was honored at the National Stadium—with Dhyan Chand tournament. Satinder Mullick remembers that Dhyan Chand took him and children of Capt. Kashmira Lal, Sports secretary of Army Hockey Federation. Dhyan Chand was staying in Jodhpur Mess. He was admired by all at the National Stadium.

In 1956, at the age of 51, he retired from the army with the rank of Major. The Government of India honored him the same year by conferring him the Padma Bhushan (India's third highest civilian honour).

After retirement, he taught at coaching camps at Mount Abu, Rajasthan. Later, he accepted the position of Chief Hockey Coach at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, a post he held for several years. Chand spent his last days in his hometown of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Dhyan Chand died on December 3, 1979 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He was cremated at the Jhansi Heroes ground in his hometown, after some initial problems in getting clearance. His regiment, the Punjab Regiment, accorded him full military honours.
Legacy

Even today, Dhyan Chand remains a legendary figure in Indian and world hockey. His astounding skills have been glorified in various apocryphal stories and anecdotes. A number of such legends revolve around the fact that Singh had a magical control over dribbling the ball. August 29, Chand's birthday, is celebrated as National Sports Day in India. The President gives away sport-related awards such as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award and Dronacharya Award on this day at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, India.

India's highest award for lifetime achievement in sports is the Dhyan Chand Award which has been awarded annually from 2002 to sporting figures who not only contribute through their performance but also contribute to the sport after their retirement. The National Stadium, Delhi was renamed Dhyan Chand National Stadium in 2002 in his honour.
He scored over 1000 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.

Anecdotes

• Once, while playing a hockey game, Major Dhyan Chand was not able to score a goal against the opposition team. After several misses, he argued with the match referee regarding the measurement of the goal post, and amazingly, it was found to not be in conformation with the official width of a goal post (as prescribed under international rules).
• After India played its first match in the 1936 Olympics, Dhyan Chand's magical stickwork drew crowds from other venues to the hockey field. A German newspaper carried a banner headline: 'The Olympic complex now has a magic show too.' The next day, there were posters all over Berlin: Visit the hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
• After seeing his prolific play at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Adolf Hitler offered Dhyan Chand, a Major in the British Indian Army, German citizenship and an offer to promote him to the rank of a Colonel (which Dhyan Chand, of course, refused).
• In Holland, the authorities broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside.
• On one occasion, a lady from the audience asked Dhyan Chand to play with her walking stick instead. He scored goals even with them!
• Cricket world's legend Don Bradman and Hockey's greatest player Dhyan Chand once came face to face at Adelaide in 1935, when the Indian hockey team was in Australia. After watching Dhyan Chand in action, Don Bradman remarked "He scores goals like runs in cricket"
• Residents of Vienna, Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him with four hands and four sticks, depicting his control and mastery over the ball.
• A tube station has been named after him in London, along with 358 other past and present Olympic heroes,in the run-up to the Games, starting on July 27,2012. The Transport for London has brought out a special 'Olympic Legends Map', detailing all 361 tube stations. Only six stops have been named after hockey players, with the three Indians - Dhyan Chand, Roop Singh and Leslie Claudius - cornering the majority.

பெங்களூர் கால்பந்து வீரர் மைதானத்தில் மயங்கி விழுந்து சாவு

2004ல் இதே ஸ்டேடியத்தில் மரணம் அடைந்த கிறிஸ்டியானா (பைல் படம் உரிய சிகிச்சை உடனடியாக கிடைக்காததால் மைதானத்தில் மயங்கி விழுந்த பெங்களூர் கால்பந்து வீரர் மரணம் அடைந்தார். பெங்களூர் காண்டீவாரா ஸ்டேடியத்தில் 'ஏ'டிவிஷன் கால்பந்து போட்டி நடந்து வருகிறது.இந்த போட்டியில் பெங்களூர் மார்ஷ் அணி தென்மேற்கு ரெயில்வே அணியுடன் மோதியது.இந்த ஆட்டத்தின் போது 70வது நிமிடத்தில் பெங்களூர் மார்ஷ் அணியின் வீரர் வெங்கடேஷ் மைதானத்தில் மயங்கி விழுந்தார்.அவரது வாயில் இருந்து ரத்தம் வழிந்த வண்ணம் இருந்தது. ஆனால் உடனடியாக முதலுதவி சிகிச்சை அளிக்க மைதானத்தில் எந்த மருத்துவ குழுவும் இல்லை.ஏன் மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு செல்ல ஒரு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் கூட இல்லை.இதையடுத்து ஒரு ஆட்டோவை கொண்டு வந்து அவரை மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு சென்றனர்.இதற்கு சுமார் 45 நிமிடம் பிடித்தது.ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் வெங்கடேஷை பரிசோதித்த டாக்டர்கள் அவர் ஏற்கனவே இறந்து விட்டதாக தெரிவித்தனர்.வெங்கடேசுக்கு 22 வயது மட்டுமே ஆகிறது.இந்த இளம் வீரரின் மரணம் பெங்களுர் கால்பந்து வீரர்களும் பெரும் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.வெங்கடேஷின் மரணத்தையடுத்து சொந்தமாக ஒரு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் வாங்க கர்நாடக கால்பந்து சங்கம் முடிவு செய்துள்ளது.மேலும் அவரது குடும்பத்திற்கு ரூ.1 லட்சம் இழப்பீடாகவும் வழங்கியுள்ளது. இதற்கு முன் கடந்த 2004ம் ஆண்டு பெங்களூர் காண்டீவாரா ஸ்டேடியத்தில் நடந்த பெடரேஷன் கோப்பை அரைஇறுதி போட்டியில் டெம்போ மற்றும் மோகன்பகான் அணிகள் மோதின.இந்த போட்டியில் டெம்போவின் கிறிஸ்டியானோ ஜுனியர் மைதானத்திலேயே மரணம் அடைந்தார்.

வெற்றி வாகை சூட வாழ்த்துக்கள்...

நியூசிலாந்தில் உள்ள ஆக்லாந்து நகரில், ஏப்., 12 - 22ம் தேதிகளில் பெண்களுக்கான நான்கு நாடுகள் பங்கேற்கும் ஹாக்கி தொடர் டக்கவுள்ளது. இதில் நியூசிலாந்து, இந்தியா, ஆஸ்திரேலியா, அமெரிக்கா உள்ளிட்ட நான்கு அணிகள் விளையாடுகின்றன.இதில் பங்கேற்கும் இந்திய வீராங்கனைகள் நேற்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டனர். கேப்டனாக 125 சர்வதேச போட்டிகளில் விளையாடிய ரிது ராணி நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். துணைக் கேப்டனாக 87 சர்வதேச போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்ற ஜாய்தீப் கவுர் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

இந்தியா, பாகிஸ்தான், மலேசியா, தென் கொரியா, சீனா மற்றும் ஜப்பான் அணிகள் பங்கேற்கும் ஆசிய சாம்பியன்ஸ் டிராபி ஹாக்கி தொடர், இந்த ஆண்டு கத்தாரில் நடத்த ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. போட்டி நடக்கும் தேதிகள் முடிவாகவில்லை என்றாலும், வரும் நவம்பர் - டிசம்பரில் தொடர் நடக்கும் என்று தெரிகிறது. போட்டிகள் இங்குள்ள அல்-ரேயான் மைதானத்தில் நடக்கும். இதில் 1500 பேர் அமர்ந்து பார்க்கும் வசதி தான் உள்ளது. இருப்பினும், தொடரின் போது கூடுதலாக தற்காலிக இருக்கைகள் அமைக்கப்படுகிறது.

கத்தார் ஹாக்கி கூட்டமைப்பு (கியூ.எச்.எப்.,) செயலர் முகமது நாசர் அப்துல் கூறுகையில், ""ஆசிய சாம்பியன்ஸ் டிராபி தொடர் இங்கு நடப்பது, கத்தாரில் ஹாக்கியை பிரபலப்படுத்த பெரிதும் உதவும். இந்தியா, பாகிஸ்தான் அணிகள் மோதும் போட்டிகளின் போது மைதானம் நிரம்பி வழியும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது,'' என்றார்.

நடப்பு சாம்பியன் நம் இந்திய நாடு என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. சென்ற ஆண்டு சீனாவில் நடந்த இறுதி போட்டியில் பாகிஸ்தானை 4-2 என கோல் அடித்து கோப்பையை பெற்று நம் நாட்டிற்கு பெருமையை தேடி தந்தது. இம்முறையும் ஆசிய கோப்பையை வெல்ல வாழ்த்துக்கள்...
